Focus on Student LearningI believe that every aspect of the classroom should be focused on student learning and growth. From activities to assessment methods, student learning is the top priority. I strive to create a community and culture in my classroom that is conducive to student learning and to ensure the strategies and methods I choose do the same. When it comes to the relationship between theory and practice, I believe that the theories that I implement and the practices that I apply both have student learning as the objective.

Community InvolvementI think community involvement in classrooms is a great way for students to make connections with where they live, get involved in local issues and events, and allows for expertise from the community to be brought into the classroom. Incorporating place-based learning and fostering community partnerships (projects and guests) are ways that can make the learning we do in class relevant and real to our students.
Child-Centered ClassroomI believe in a classroom where students guide the learning. Through inquiry and following interests and passions, I hope for my classroom to be a place where students can find what they love and delve deep into the questions they have. My hope is that I can help give students the tools they need to become life-long learners and inspire a thirst for learning that continues on throughout their lives. By catering to student interests and allowing them say in what and how they learn, I believe the learning experience can become much more rich and fulfilling.
Positive environmentStudents cannot learn if they do not feel safe. My goal is to create a classroom environment and student-teacher relationship with my students where they feel safe to stretch themselves, take risks, and not be afraid to fail. I want to create an inclusive environment where all learners can feel comfortably uncomfortable in their quest for knowledge.
